The Shallows

by Meg Smith

I lost you in the ice,
the broken thread of white
across black water.
I lost you in the inland sea,
as you reached,
to take photos, to grasp
the mist in a solid place.
The lake becomes us,
ocean of hearts.
The tide becomes us,
grave of gleaming stones.
