Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Matthew G. Rees
Matthew lives in Wales and has a doctorate in Creative Writing from the University of Swansea. He has taught English in Moscow. His fiction has been published in print and on line, including a recent collection of his short stories. He says he likes to try his hand at “entertainment,” to borrow Graham Greene’s term.
Many years ago, when your Editor was teaching a class in French, three young ladies from Russia were enrolled. They were extraordinarily competent in language acquisition, which came as no surprise to me. With one eye on them, I entertained the class periodically with tidbits about cultural differences that all students might expect when visiting France. And I added, after the first little story, that our friends from Russia might be able to tell us similar stories about America. They enthusiastically agreed. I hope Matthew can entertain and enlighten us with observations from his own experience.
Meanwhile, readers will surely enjoy “The Bewitched Bathtub of Boris Babikov,” a rip-snorting comedy about life in an ordinary apartment building, one that takes a fantastic turn. One of our Review Editors notes fondly that the story is reminiscent of Gogol’s “great sleigh of Russia.” Neighbors can have great stories to tell!
