Kiosk Café

by Michael Amitin

London, 7:00 a.m. rain street
well-lit Kiosk Café
small homey pick-up magazines papers
espresso

New York Review headline
“The Fall of Men” faces of two angry
ball-fisted young females
adorning the journal’s cover

Radio got two lily-soft tenors
in acoustic melancholia
honey-bunch manning the counter
hair in a bun puts out fresh rolls
I forgo the espresso the express route out
‘way out’ as they say here

Brightswitch Street a young girl skips in the rain
I remember being an American boy
zip-a-dee-doo-dah!
