Stirred Words

by Wendy Holborow

She tries to stop the words
spilling out
by slapping her hand
against
her mouth
but they slip through
the splayed fingers
& the surge of words
tumble
into space

The shock of her discourse
creates a silence

It is so quiet you can hear the dot
fall off the i
roll into a corner of the room
see the curve of tailed letters
gripping
onto door handles
and window latches
the linear letters
clinking
like lexical pick-up-sticks

You can see the blur of initials
how she stirs the cursive words
scatters
them
into sensibilities
