Bewildering Stories introduces and welcomes...
Ishita Lahiri
Ishita is from Durgapur, a town in West Bengal, India and has degrees in English Literature from Calcutta University and Jadavpur University. An early ambition to become a creative writer changed in the course of Ishita’s studies when an enjoyable talent as a historian emerged. Ishita has since taken an interest in anglophone Indian science fiction and a vivid interest in “mad scientists” in literature, which may serve as a Ph.D. dissertation topic.
“The Yesterday and Tomorrow of Indian Steampunk” is indexed in issue 925 as an “Article,” which is non-fiction. Scholarly articles are rare but by no means unprecedented at Bewildering Stories and as such, they receive special consideration for our Quarterly and Annual Reviews, While the subject matter of “Indian Steampunk” may appear arcane to some readers, the article is well worth even the casual readers’ perusing it; the historical survey will yield cultural analyses of interest in all countries of the British Commonwealth and around the world.
Why should Ishita’s article be published in Bewildering Stories? From the beginning, “BwS” has had a world-wide outreach and, over the years, we have attracted and welcomed many Indian science fiction writers. The authors are often as interesting as the stories they’ve sent us. And the same can be said of submissions from other continents where English is cultivated as a second language.
