Bewildering Stories introduces and welcomes...
Luis López Nieves
Luis is a Puerto Rican author who has written about Puerto Rico in the 16th century. “Lisa Gherardini” is the maiden name of the figure in Leonardo da Vinci’s painting “La Gioconda” or “Mona Lisa.” The translator has chosen the story because it is fascinatingly atypical of Nieves’ writing.
“Lisa Gherardini” will entertain and amuse readers by bringing images to life from the classical artwork in which they reside. Lisa herself is a passionate and attractive young woman who is interested in all her surreptitious visitor can tell her about the outside world. Thus begins a touching and yet humorous love story that bridges the gap between art and viewer.
