D. M. is a software developer and has had a complex relationship with “a few perfectly good airplanes.” He has also written several short stories, some of which have appeared in anthologies.

“Arcane Inspirations” will undoubtedly dazzle readers with the appearance of a muse that seems to resemble coincidentally Richard Ong’s Brain Teaser. Readers will also sympathize with the student mage Dwoolindor, who tries to prove his magical worth by surreptitiously summoning the apparition only to find that it seems to be so self-importantly talkative that it makes real inspiration welcome as a do-it-yourself project.
