Bewildering Stories introduces and welcomes...
Larry Lefkowitz
Larry has published prose and poetry extensively, often flavored with humor. Fomite Press has published Enigmatic Tales, a collection of Jewish stories, and Fomite will soon publish another collection of stories, a novella and The Varieties of Jewish Experience, a humorous Yiddish glossary.
“Feet of Clay on a Rainy Day” may stagger readers who have even only heard of the author’s reputation for humor. But it bears out a motto of Bewildering Stories: comedy and tragedy differ in degree, not in kind.
The “Harry Clem” of the story makes it clear that Helen belongs to an ethnic group he hates. How could they have ever married? Obviously, Harry’s attitude must have changed somewhat over the years, which is a problem for historians. We can imagine that, in prison, Harry may come to sport the political tattoo “88,” for the 8th letter of the alphabet. As for comedy, we have a famous film starring Charlie Chaplin; it was released in 1940. And, as Harry’s historical predecessor promised, we are assured that his footprints will remain in the mud of history for a thousand years.
