Bewildering Stories introduces and welcomes...
Karl Miller
Karl lives in Coral Springs, Florida and has published fiction and poetry extensively. Two plays of his have been staged in New York and Los Angeles.
“Redress” is a story that reflects Bewildering Stories’ own title, which has the intended meaning of “stories that raise questions.” In particular:
- Why does Kevin Pierce say he prefers to walk back to his hotel rather than accept a ride?
- The title “Redress” obviously makes a humorous reference to the seemingly magical return of Kevin Pierce’s overcoat. How might the more common meaning of “redress” also apply?
- What was happening in Ireland in the 1840’s that caused many to emigrate to North America?
- When Pierce wakes up, he might discover how much a mint-condition 1849 Liberty penny is worth today. What might be the equivalent of today’s value in the currency of 1849? If Pierce sold the penny, what might he do with the money he receives or its 19th-century equivalent?
