Death and Degradation Among the Humoi
To err is human. To really mess things up requires a computer.
Well, as the saying goes, I could tell you what happened, but then I'd have to kill you, and that's no way to advance a friendship. Needless to say things COULD have been a whole lot worse. I had a backup of a backup, so I had everything up to issue... Uhm... 148, or something like that. Of course, now I will automagically save the files to a computer I don't ever mess with, so they should be theoretically safe.
I want to thank all of our friends who helped us restore some missing files. Joern Grote and Rajnar Vajra come to mind. I'll be glad when this sudden spurt of travel is over so I can do some of the stuff that needs done. And, Oh how I hate this keyboard on my Dell Laptop. I type letters I don't want, and end up all over the screen. And Scream.
COmputers were supposed to make our lives easier, weren't they? And be "labor saving devices" right? HA!
However, without computers and the Internet, we wouldn't be here to complain to you, so perhaps I'd better shut up. Also, I'm getting the SQL database set up so that we can have the forum again. I miss it too.
So, from Sunday night at Fort Lauderdale, Florida (and don't envy me, I'm here for work and can't play), I bid you all adieu.
Late Breaking News
And shortly after I wrote those fine words, the server on which BwS is
running... locked up. Included on this server were of course the email
program for a lawfirm I take care of, and manifold other necessary things.
And it just locked up. I feel like going to a monastery. (I almost said
'nunnery', but of course, they wouldn't let me in.) Computers... Bah,
humbug! So it wasn't until 8 am Pacific that someone came into the office
and rebooted the computer, and then, on top of that, the Apache webserver
was down, and had to be brought up manually. By me. At lunch. 12 Eastern.
Bah humbug indeed.
