Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Niklas Peinecke
Niklas writes to us from Hannover, Germany, where he says he has a blog but no cat. He finished his Ph.D. two years ago and has studied math, computer science, and sociology. He’s been a science fiction fan since the age of four and first tried writing at age eight.
“A Countdown for Your Security” is his third science fiction story, the first to sell to a magazine, and his first appearance in an English-language publication.
On the surface, “Countdown” is the story of a mugging in a subway. However, the story adroitly evokes a near-future society that is quite strange: thugs are disciples of a crazed philosopher, and prosthetic implants are obtained at the price of hourly advertisements — a bargain that can be life-threatening.
Naomi Klein’s No Logo has found support in a satire that is all the darker for being plausible.

Welcome to Bewildering Stories, Niklas. We hope to hear from you again soon and often!
