Spring’s Uplift

by Oonah V. Joslin

Another world
the gnarled branch of my dwarf robinia
with wood mouse acrobats.

A feeder sways,
sparrows squabble
for position,

staccato starlings strafe
their own Morse code
across the sky

swoop and scatter all; crow
about their glorious victory
over so small a foe.

My mind sways with the wind,
swims in the smell of
early spring rain

lies awake; listens for
that first triadic burst
that rises with the sticky sap

to herald anew
a season
a new day.
