Üzeyir Lokman Çaycı
Üzeyir was born and raised in Bor, Turkey. He has a degree in interior architecture and industrial design from the School of Applied Industrial Art in the national Academy of Fine Art.
While working in the field of industrial design, Üzeyir has also had great success in publishing poems, short stories, and novels. His artwork has won prizes in many competitions.
Üzeyir currently works in France, where he lives with his wife Neziha. He expresses gratitude to his French language translator, Yakup Yurt.
“I Am Still Hovering Over the Past” is a lyric poem telling of the need to remember the past and yet to keep it at a distance. Readers not fluent in Turkish may find the quality of the original difficult to appreciate. The French title, taken from the refrain Je suis encore sur le passé, is somewhat obscure, and the English-language translator had to interpret it. Perhaps the sentence is an idiomatic expression in Turkish. In any event, one easily imagines the poem as a song lyric.
