Borrowed Thunder

by Oonah V. Joslin

There’s danger to be had
thrill of a static moment
hair on end
charged

The monster in me comes to life
with beating breast and breath
taken in sharp
held
expelled only when
the coil-tongue of lightning licks
elsewhere

Spared by a greater force
life is the sweeter for
rain

Thunder feeds heroic deeds
fearless
pitted against nature
chasing

the hubris of it all
