Tenax Preposterous

by Oonah V. Joslin

I envision, Tenax said,
a message across the ages
for all things are connected;
the finger bone
to the arm bone
to the shoulder bone
to the backbone;
the backbone to the cranium.

This laptop connected to
the treadmill wherein
the rat runs shall power
the keys to my success.
I shall be hailed emperor of the future.

Alas it was a slow connection.
The rat contracted a virus.
The computer died.
No message illuminated the screen.
No brain remained within the bone.

Hear ye the word of the rat, I say,

nothing articulate.

“Laptop,” from issue 533
