Minneapolis’ Natural Jazz
by Oonah V. Joslin
Science of sound cafe
suspended scales
forty-five feet from
the ceiling of the atrium
one hundred and fifty
resonating tubes
pick up the signals
amplify the sound
played on marimba,
xylophone, wooden jugs,
rhythms and styles, faster tempos, more voices
suited to the size and location of
the Quake.
This is the music of the seismophone
ladders that link our thoughts deep into Earth.
As we eat we are reminded by
occasional, random, strangely calming notes,
the crust beneath us is
in constant motion.
