Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Charles G. Chettiar
Charles is an engineer and works in Mumbai, India. He is very fond of his avocation as a writer. He has completed a first novel and is working on a second. His short fiction includes horror and fantasy as well as political and historical thrillers.
“Grandpa and the Elephant” is a brief short story about a grandfather who is happy to buy his young grandson a stuffed toy elephant as a present. But the grandfather is rather helpless when it comes to haggling in the marketplace. And his weakness with money goes much further and runs very deep.
The story might be considered a vignette, since it doesn’t really arrive at a conclusion. But, at the end, when the grandfather looks at his hands, it’s over; we needn’t be told any more. We know exactly how the grandfather feels.
