Rick is a prolific short-story writer whose fiction has appeared in numerous small presses, literary magazines and e-zines. It has won several awards.

“Switching Sides” comes at a particularly appropriate time of the year, when the Chicago Cubs are battling the New York Mets in the 2015 National League Championship series.

But “Switching Sides” is not really a sports story, because nothing takes place “on the field.” Rather, the Cubs are in the background, and we get the viewpoint of both fans and a shadowy eminence who is involved in making “trades” of a very high-level sort. Readers may wonder how he pulls them off...
