Xenia Melzer

Xenia is a native of southern Bavaria and lives there with her family. She studied American, English and German literature in Munich. She has written a novel, which she expects to be published in 2016.

“Forest Deep, Forest Dark” seems reminiscent of the film and musical theatre productions of Into the Woods, in which fairytale characters are viewed not as stereotypes but as real people. In Xenia’s story, the story is told from the witch’s point of view. The sinister forest might symbolize a kind of “eternal return,” where the darkness of one generation recurs in the next.
