Gary Ives lives in the Ozarks where he grows apples and writes.

“Christmas Pies” is far from your garden-variety Christmas story. It is a bleak horror story about a 19th-century missonary who preaches and practices the opposite of his religion’s theology. Oddly, the Australian aboriginals among whom the cleric is sent to work seem to come closer to understanding what he is supposed to be telling them. One can hardly blame them for their partial incomprehension.
