After Yeats’ “Do not hurry, do not rest”
by Oonah V. Joslin
There’s no hurry sure
Sit a while with the pen in your hand
and if nothing comes to mind
write nothing
and if something comes to mind
write something
There’s no hurry sure
you’ve your whole life to consider
the what or the whether
of it all
and tomorrow or the day after
you can always
change a word here or there
not like when a word is said
and you didn’t mean it
and you can’t take it back
Paper is more forgiving
than friends or enemies
Paper’s in no hurry and ink flows slow
but in the end it demands your best
and till the day you die
it will insist you take your time
but never rest
