Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Jerry Wright
Has Bewildering Stories finally taken its whimsical name just a little too seriously? Since when does a webzine “welcome” its owner, especially when it’s coming up fast on its second anniversary?
Well, a long time back, we initiated our custom of extending an official welcome to everyone who sends us a biographical sketch. Over the past several months, our Biographies & Bibliographies index has grown to a very respectable size. Jerry’s name became increasingly conspicuous by its absence, and I nagged him a few times to make himself “less grey an eminence” and tell us something about himself. But Jerry is entirely too busy and, I suspect, too modest for that.
Until last week, when Jerry posted a biographical sketch in a topic devoted to them on the Asimov’s forum. Aha! It must not go to waste! I promptly snagged the posting and immortalized it in our Biographies & Bibliographies. Now, lest Jerry think I’m picking on him, I’ve done the same for Steven Utley.
Jerry is well known to contributors for his friendly, laconic e-mails and to readers as “Gandalf,” on our forum. Having spoken with him on the phone a couple of times, I can report he’s even more congenial and forthcoming in “voice” than on line and speaks with what is to my ear a charming accent that I can only describe vaguely as “western.”
Jerry is well known to readers of Bewildering Stories as the author of the book reviews and editorials that appear in each issue. This issue’s News bulletin goes more into detail about what he does behind the scenes.
At long last, welcome to Bewildering Stories, podner! We need you.
