The Sincerest Form

by Jerry Wright

And so it is said that "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery", and if so, then I'm flattering the folks at Epic Science Fiction and Fantasy. The aforementioned site is primarily a site ABOUT SF and Fantasy, whereas we are a site OF SF and Fantasy. For what that's worth.

Anyway, I mean, articles, a forum, we were there first, were we not? Well, yes. Especially as we are coming up on our 2 year anniversary, and plummeting into Year 3. However, EpicSFF is having a contest, and giving away a book. Wait a second! We can do that. I get books all the time. I just got Eric Van Lustbader's new book as a review copy. I read it. I enjoyed it. The review is in this issue. Now what? Well, foo. We'll let some lucky person win this copy for their very own! And even autographed "Best Wishes, Bewildering Stories" (If so desired. Would that increase or decrease the value? Hrmmm...)

So, what does it take to win this brand new just barely out hardbound novel? Simple. Just send us a story. Send us a poem. Send us an article, or some artwork, something... Append to the submission a note that it is a contest entry! Then, in a couple of weeks, we'll (probably randomly, but who knows) choose a winner. Don't know yet, but we may require that the contestant join the forum. That's what EpicSFF requires, but we aren't them, nor are they us.

This does several things. One, it increases our chances of someone coming to Bewildering Stories. It increases our submissions (always a good thing, I say!) and gives a reader a chance to win a new fantasy book to add to their collection.

Assuming we get some reasonable responses, we'll do it again. Don't guarantee a hardback every time, but it will be a new (or newish) book. And, no doubt, one I've reviewed.
