Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Elyss G. Punsalan
Elyss works as a marketing manager for a company that sells lipstick. She’s become a figure to reckon with among contemporary writers in the Philippines and has published extensively in magazines and anthologies.
“Pursuit of the Litaniera,” she reports, was a finalist for Prose in the 3rd Philippine Graphic/Fiction Awards. Readers will readily understand why the story made the short list: it has a lyrical quality and introduces a likeable character in the person of Apo Leticia, who ministers to the ill without regard for gain.
At first, Apo fears Death, whom she calls Leong, and tries to chase him away. But Leong is a polite figure, and when he spares Apo’s son from drowning in a flooded river, we see Apo and Leong — Life and Death — achieve the impossible by becoming friends.
